Coming From The Left...

I'm left brained. I'm fairly sure of that, regardless of any test or experiment that might say otherwise. I've always had a huge problem understanding "right-brained" people. But I never realized this, until I read "Dharma And Greg", an article from Momastery. It was like a light bulb went off.

I have never been able to relate to extremely "right-brained" people, especially women. A little right-brained I could cope with. But extreme right-brain? Not a chance. I just didn't get that ditzy, vague, off-in-fairy land thing - until now. Because I didn't "know" they were right-brained. I didn't realise that was what made us so different. Frustratingly so, at times. But I "get it" now. I still don't understand why some of us are much more left brained, and others are much more right-brained, but I do "get it!".

This may seem irrelevant to many of you, but to me, it has opened my eyes to so much. My husband is more right-brained than me. Yes - I just said that, for all the world to see. (I may be left-brained but I have a wicked sense of humour, lol!). He loves poetry, and that "grey" area in discussions - you know, the "What if this happened?", or "How would you feel if I...". The stuff that drives me crazy. Yeah, I'm much more black and white. I'm the science, maths and logic girl. The nerd. But the crazy thing is - my right brain must work fairly well, because I am also creative. Go figure.

My left brain is having a hard time registering the fact that some people can be both left, and right brained. Yes, one must have a stronger side out of the two options, but for some people, they can live, function and work happily, with, or in both, sides of the brain. Damn, if only it made life easier, lol!

But all this doesn't change one thing - hell will freeze over before I ever live with an extreme right-brained person. I'm left-brained enough to know that is just a disaster waiting to happen. Yep, thank goodness my children are only mildly right-brained. :-)

I Didn't Sign Up For This...

Nope. I didn't sign up for a mad house. I refuse to go down this path - this is not happening to me!!!! Those were just a few of the phrases that raced through my head when my eldest daughter arrived home from school today. Along with "Take it back, right now! No, no, no, no, no...you cannot keep it!!!"

As a parent, what is one of the WORST instruments your daughter could choose to learn? Think about it. Any guesses? My daughter walked in the door today carrying a TROMBONE (which is pretty much the same size as her). Oh, hell no! Anything BUT THAT!!!! Please God, have some mercy on me!!!

But wait, it gets better. She has proudly informed me that she must practice, EVERY SINGLE DAY!!! Gag! Choke! Splutter! This cannot be happening to me, can it?

I've already sent my husband around to apologise to all the neighbours. Yeah, and next year, when Keana goes into Year 4, she gets to choose an instrument too. Me, I'm leaving home...seriously...

Layout for Noel Mignon Challenge...

As many of you know, I'm a huge fan of the Noel Mignon kits. I have sooooo many of them, but I haven't played with them for ages. So I decided to change that, and participate in Noel's current scrapbook challenge.

The challenge was to use the following: 1. Either a paint dauber or a mist spray, and 2. Either an edge distresser or sewing. You can't use both options - it has to be one or the other from the two techniques given. I chose mist spray and sewing. Titled: 52 Weeks Of The Year. Which Noel Mignon kit did I use? I have no idea - yes, I have THAT many!!!

I used the Tattered Angels Iridescent Gold mist on my flowers. I love how it just gives a pale golden glimmer.
I sewed stitching for my banner. Nope, I didn't draw a line or plan it first - I simply put the paper up to my sewing machine, crossed my fingers, hoped for the best, and started sewing. Sometimes that method works for me. :-)

I used Tattered Angels Santa Baby Glimmermist to colour my Bella! lace paper butterflies (from my own stash). Because they were white, and already had a tonne of glitter on them, they have come out in a beautiful marbled effect after being sprayed.
The new Noel Mignon challenge should go up soon - I can't wait!!!

Crafty Sketches February Sketch...

It's "new sketch time" over at Crafty Sketches. This month's sketch was designed by team member Annette Gearside.

Crafty Sketches February Sketch Challenge (just click on the link for full details).

Here's my take on February's Sketch!
Titled: She Uses Stealth (it's about Malayla being sneaky, lol!).
Products used: Noel Mignon Sweet Sue Kit.

The Color Room Palette #95

With my girls being back at school (at long last), I found some time to play over at The Color Room. I just LOVE this week's palette (#95). It's nice and bright, and very, very me!!!

And I absolutely adored Lydell's sketch, so I used that as the inspiration for my layout.

Titled: This Me. It's rare that I get an opportunity to use so much red, so I made the most of it, and went to town, lol! I love red, but it's not always an easy colour to use. And yes, for those of you who are wondering, this photo of me was taken a very, very long time ago - about 15 years ago I think?

Products used: Imaginarium Designs chipboard - flourishes, butterflies and alphas. Prima flowers and leaves. Hambly transparency. Kaisercraft paper roses.

Here's a few close-ups of all the details:

Imaginarium Designs chipboard - absolute heaven to play with. The flourishes have been Glimmermisted and topped with puff paint and Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam.

More ID chipboard, lol! The small alphas have been inked and glazed with Dimensional Magic. The large alphas have been inked then glazed with Stiletto Glimmer Glam. Seriously, where would I be without my Tattered Angels? I use that stuff on everything!!!

Flowers - lots and lots of flowers. Actually, there nearly wasn't lots and lots of flowers because my cat Jellybean decided to nick off with one of the roses. Fortunately I found it in time before too much damage was done. Does cat hair count as damage???
